History of Akshardham Temple

The idea of Akshardham Temple was inspired by Yogiji Maharaj, the fourth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. The temple complex was created under the guidance and efforts of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the fifth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan.

The foundation stone of the temple was laid by Pramukh Swami Maharaj on 14 December 1979. The main mandir was completed after several years of planning, stone carving, and construction work.
