History of ISKCON Temple Aligarh

ISKCON Aligarh was started in April 2011 by H.G. Rasraj Prabhu under the guidance of H.G. Kratu Prabhu, a direct disciple of Srila Prabhupada.

The initial preaching and devotional activities were conducted from a city centre in Aligarh. As the number of devotees and spiritual programmes increased, the need for a larger temple campus became important.

The temple land at Harduaganj was developed for the Gita Gyan Mandir project. The Bhumi Pujan ceremony was performed on 13 November 2015 in the presence of senior spiritual leaders, including H.H. Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj, H.H. Navyogendra Swami Maharaj and H.H. Kratu Prabhu Maharaj.

The temple’s first phase opened on 30 November 2017 on the auspicious occasion of Mokshada Ekadashi and Sri Gita Jayanti. A special 12-hour kirtan, Bhagavad Gita discourse, cultural programmes and devotional celebrations were organised during the opening.
