Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Tithi Evam Shubh Muhurt

Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, Ganesh Chauth or Ganeshotsav, is one of the most significant Hindu festivals dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The festival celebrates the divine appearance of Lord Ganesha and is therefore also observed as Ganesh Janmotsav.

Lord Ganesha is revered as Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles, and Siddhivinayak, the bestower of success and fulfilment. He is traditionally worshipped before beginning any religious ceremony, journey, business, marriage, educational pursuit or other auspicious work.

In 2026, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on Monday, 14 September. The Chaturthi Tithi will commence at 7:06 AM on 14 September and conclude at 7:44 AM on 15 September. According to the Panchang and Madhyahna Puja tradition, Ganpati Sthapana and the principal worship should be performed on 14 September.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Puja Muhurat

Madhyahna Kala has special religious significance on Ganesh Chaturthi. According to traditional belief, Lord Ganesha was born during the midday period. Therefore, Ganpati Sthapana, Pran Pratishtha and the principal puja are preferably performed during Madhyahna Kala.

For devotees living in Jaipur, the auspicious Madhyahna Ganesh Puja Muhurat will be:

Devotees should complete Ganpati Sthapana and the main puja within this auspicious period whenever possible. However, the exact Muhurat may vary by a few minutes according to the city’s geographical location and local sunrise and sunset timings.

Ganpati Sthapana and Puja

Before installing the idol, devotees should clean the home and purify the place of worship. A sacred platform or chowki should be covered with a clean red or yellow cloth. The idol of Lord Ganesha should then be placed respectfully on the platform and decorated with flowers, garlands and ornaments.

The puja begins with a sankalp, followed by Kalash Sthapana, Ganpati Sthapana and Pran Pratishtha. Devotees may offer the following items to Lord Ganesha:

• Durva grass
• Red flowers
• Sindoor
• Sacred thread
• Incense and lamps
• Fruits and coconut
• Betel leaves and betel nuts
• Modak and laddus
• Panchamrit and pure water

Modak is especially offered because it is traditionally regarded as Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweet. After offering the puja materials, devotees may recite Ganesh mantras, Ganesh Chalisa, Ganesh Stotra and perform Ganesh Aarti.

The mantra “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah” may be chanted with faith and devotion. It is believed that chanting this mantra helps remove obstacles, calm the mind and invite positivity into one’s life.

Religious Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi symbolises the victory of wisdom over ignorance, positivity over negativity and auspiciousness over difficulties. Every feature of Lord Ganesha carries a meaningful spiritual message.

His large head represents wisdom and broad thinking, while his large ears encourage devotees to listen carefully. His small eyes symbolise concentration and attention, and his trunk represents strength, flexibility and adaptability. Lord Ganesha’s vehicle, the mouse, symbolises the importance of controlling desires and ego.

Worshipping Lord Ganesha on Ganesh Chaturthi is believed to remove difficulties and bless devotees with wisdom, patience, prosperity and success. Students pray for knowledge and concentration, business owners seek growth and financial stability, and families worship Ganpati Bappa for peace, happiness and protection.

Ganesh Chaturthi is not only a religious festival but also a celebration of family unity, cultural harmony and community participation. Homes and public pandals are decorated beautifully, devotional songs and aartis are performed, and prasad is distributed among devotees.

Ganesh Visarjan 2026

Devotees may keep the idol of Lord Ganesha for one-and-a-half, three, five, seven or ten days, depending on their family traditions. The main Ganesh Visarjan will take place on Friday, 25 September 2026, on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi.

Before Visarjan, devotees perform the final puja and aarti, offer flowers and prasad, and seek forgiveness from Lord Ganesha for any mistakes made during the worship. Bappa is then given an emotional farewell with prayers for his return the following year.

Devotees are encouraged to choose an eco-friendly clay idol and perform Visarjan responsibly. Natural decorations and biodegradable puja materials should be used to protect rivers, lakes and the surrounding environment.

Moon Sighting on Ganesh Chaturthi

According to a traditional religious belief, devotees should avoid viewing the Moon on Ganesh Chaturthi. Moon sighting on this day is associated with Mithya Dosha or Mithya Kalank, which symbolically refers to the possibility of facing a false accusation, misunderstanding or unnecessary blame.

The Moon-sighting avoidance period varies according to the geographical location of each city. Therefore, devotees should confirm the exact timing from their local Panchang or a knowledgeable priest.

If the Moon is seen accidentally, devotees traditionally remember Lord Krishna’s Syamantaka Mani story, chant the prescribed mantra and pray to Lord Ganesha for protection from Mithya Dosha.
